DESTINY

Destiny
Do we make our own destiny or is it written for us since the beginning and cannot be changed? What is destiny after all?

If you look up in a dictionary or encyclopedia: destiny refers to a predetermined course of events. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a natural order to the universe.

Many people believe destiny is a fixed timeline of events that is inevitable or unchangeable.

Others believe that they choose their own destiny by choosing different paths throughout their life.

I am one of those for whom destiny is simply what you make of it, according to the decisions, choices and paths you follow during your life.

I also believe that we pay a price for every choice we make, for choosing a specific path and not another one. Sometimes we take the right direction and sometimes not so right, but mostly we are responsible for that.

When you mention reading that the idea of destiny is based on the perception of there being a natural order to the universe, I can see that. When you study cosmology, for example, and learn about the history of the universe, it sounds as though on the scale of the very large, things may be determined to unfold the way they have.

More often when I hear people use the word "destiny" I hear overtones of complacency. In good fortune, people often state or imply that they know this was how it had to be for them - that the good things in their lives were part of God's special plan for them - like they couldn't have gotten in a car accident or been a crime victim, or suffered any one of the misfortunes that often affect other people.
